Discussion 1
Good morning!
Came across this brilliant quote this morning whilst revising. Alfred Loisy said of Jesus:
"Jesus proclaimed the Kingdom and along came the Church."
What do you think?
Have we got it right? Have we done as Jesus asked?
Would love your comments on this....

Hi Iain
I actually agree with you in much of what you have said.
Like you I dont think of Jesus as meek and mild - although not quite sure I have him as a revolutionary -if he was why wasnt he a Zealot?. But he def wasnt twee and conformist. So why are we 'the Church' like that? Is it about comfort zones? Are we scared by moving people out of where they are comfy we loose them?
Living out our lives as examples, in the practicle and everyday as you suggest is so important and again that doesnt have to be by being twee. Cant people see Jesus in people who like a laugh, a good party and live life to the full? Why of course they can - its about balance. If God wanted us all to meek and mild he would have made us that way. But he wanted variety, he want personalities (and boy has he got them!) People of all personalities can reach for the Kingdom - they can be the Church and ultimately what that is what Jesus wanted. A Church to lead ALL people to the kingdom and that requires variety and trying to fit everyone into the meek and mild mould just wont do it.
I once preached on the valley of the dry bones and talked about putting life back into the Church, putting life into the bones that fill our pews. The Church isnt dying, it just needs life put back in its bones. And there are some fantastic examples of that being done - and it has to be said by churches that are not sticking to twee and conformist! A lesson there for all.
Ok its my turn to get back to the revision! Will be interesting to see how this discussion develops!

The Kingdom was something so revolutionary it would turn all worldly ways and understanding on its head. It would be back to front, upside down, compared to the usual world order. It would transcend all areas of life, not be confined to particular places, times, areas of life.
The church...
